Description:

PROUDLY SOLD BY AEI
The 1897 Nedersetting guesthouse and Farm
kitchen is situated in Nieuwoudtville - the
famous bulb capital of the world. Tourists,
researchers, botanists and geologists from all
over the world flock to this small town in their
thousands in the flower season during
August and September of
each year. Apart from the wild flowers,
Nieuwoudtville offers distinctive landscapes
and historic buildings dating back as far as
the late 1800’s. The 1897 Nederseting
guesthouse is one of these historical gems.
Built from traditional Nieuwoudtville
sandstone, this building lends itself to a warm
and welcoming home for guests to be
entertained in the true hospitable Namaqua
style. The meaning of the word ‘nedersetting’
originates from the firs plot to be marked out
in Nieuwoudtville during 1897 and can be
translated as settlement – an appropriate
word for premises where people live
together. The erf was marked out by a
surveyor named Watermeyer and the remains
of his office and stable can still be seen on
the plot today and is known to be the first
building to have been erected in
Nieuwoudtville during the 1800’s. It is
presently in use by the guesthouse.
Standard Bank recently sold the building and
Tobie & Alicia Nel became the proud owners
of this remarkable sandstone building which
had the potential of being charmed into a
guesthouse. The 1897 Nedersetting
guesthouse and Farm kitchen is situated in
the main road on the corner of Nassau and
Voortrekker streets.The guesthouse consists
of four rooms each with its own en-suite
shower and private entrance (2 x double bed
rooms and 2 x 2single bed rooms) leading
onto a covered stoep to the adjacent lounge,
dining room and fully licensed ladies bar.
